In Communist Russia, Plane Flies You
Communist design and architecture is at the very least interesting, at its best iconic. I was booking some flights today when I got an email from American Airlines suggesting I spend $440 on 16,000 bonus miles, and I began to wonder how people were able to fly for vacations or travel toward the end of the USSR when air travel was common in the US. I couldn't find any info online, so I was forced to speculate (thanks Internet!), and now I'm imagining people in Moscow trading their Aeroflot bonus miles to friends so they can get enough for their beach vacation on the Dalmatian coast. As bad as that sounds, it's not any worse than getting emails from American Airlines trying to sell me these worthless bonus miles.
