People who camp exclusively in mountain states have no appreciation for the head net. This is a bag of no-see-em netting that you pull over your head, kind of like wearing pantyhose for a robbery except this one is baggy. It is worn when camping in boggy areas where mosquitoes proliferate, and if you forget to pack one and find yourself needing one, you are faced with the choice of going home with a lumpy swollen face or using so much DEET that your waking hours turn into nightmarish hallucinations. I once had a net "head tent" which is exactly what it sounds like, a tiny tent made of net you could drape over your head while sleeping to keep mosquitoes at bay, and even that was useless. More so because it was impossible to use at night since my friends would all laugh at great volume for such lengthy durations that it was impossible to get any sleep.
