Better Than Applause

I had the rare and fantastic opportunity to see the philharmonic play a classical set over the weekend. The experience reminded me a lot of going to church, except in this case it's not frowned upon to close your eyes and daydream. Several people around me fell asleep. The biggest surprise was that no one clapped between songs. They all held their applause until the intermission and then the very end of the show. And they went nuts, or as nuts as you can imagine people at the philharmonic going. They clapped a lot and some of them stood up can clapped. And while no one clapped between songs, they all coughed. Which, as far as I'm concerned, is a much greater complement to the musicians: all of these people hold their coughs until you're done playing. It has to feel nice for them.
