Unfamiliar Territory
Some friends loaned me the use of their apartment while they were out of town. Their bedroom was very dark, perfect for sleeping, but I left the door open and could see lights from the living room, so I got up and turned everything off. It was one of those nights where you close your eyes and open them back up thinking a few moments have passed, when in fact you've been out several hours. The bedroom was near black, but a tiny bit of light had began creeping in. I woke in a fog, took a few moments to remember that I was at my friends' house, but the light still confused me. I was sure I'd turned off the lights. So certain was I that it was still the middle of the night, that I figured my friend had set a timer with lights to turn on in the middle of the night, and I realized what an amazing joke that would be. Then I was surprised he'd neglected to also plug his stereo into the timer to blast techno music at the same time. Turns out it was daytime, though I'm going to begin looking for timers for the next time I loan out my apartment.
