Catching a Glimpse

After a winter of mashing an oddly-shaped hat into my bike helmet every day, I splurged and got a winter cycling cap on sale. It's insanely tight, but then again every one-size-fits-all hat can barley accommodate my gargantuan head. When I got the hat and tried it on with my helmet, I glanced in the mirror. It was one of those moments where you realize how stupid you used to look doing whatever it is you used to do, in this case it was dressing like an old lady who just learned to ride a bike. So I wore my new hat on the ride to work, and I'm not sure if it's because my head is so wide that it forces the brim into an odd angle or it's just a poorly designed hat, but the brim obscures a lot of my vision. A lot. I can't even see traffic lights without craning my neck up, and I can only see car doors a bit ahead of myself. The hat was cheap so I'm not going to send it back, so now I either have to go back to looking like an idiot or take a greater risk of getting crunched by a car. I think I'll just cut the brim off my new hat so that I get to keep wearing it but also embrace a whole new idiotic look.
