The Shutdown

I passed a rainy day in Washington DC last week and got to see the government shutdown in all its glory. Museums and memorials closed; families that had already booked travel and hotels wandering around to any sites they could find that were open. Seemingly the only people unaffected were the protesters who were able to go about their daily tasks of telling the government what a terrible job it's doing, and their ranks have swelled. Might have something to do with all those furloughed government employees. And what better way for them to pass the time than telling their employer to get it together? In spite of all the nonsense, I took comfort knowing that we live in a place where people who work for the government are comfortable openly saying that it's run by a bunch of idiots.
