I'm friends with a woman who I loaned a book to a long time ago. I forgot about it. It wasn't a book that was dear to me, and its loss was of no consequence. I'd never read it again. A few weeks ago I ran into her and ended up chatting after she'd had a few glasses of wine. She confided in me, "Every time I see you, I think, 'I have his book and I haven't returned it.'" I've seen her in passing a couple times since then. Now we look at each other and both think about that book. I should tell her she can keep it.
