Watching Sports

I don't understand people who watch professional sports live. Well, at least some professional sports. What must it be like sitting at mile 15 of the Tour de France and watching all the riders file past in 10 seconds? I suppose you could say you watched the event, and at least you didn't have to pay to attend. Watching professional football or basketball is so much better on TV. I have no idea what's happening when I attend the games in person, and innings or quarters either seem to have occurred without my notice or drag on far too long. The only exception is watching mountain bike and cyclocross in person. It's not on TV anywhere, so that's not even an option, plus attending the races as a spectator is the sports equivalent of hanging out in a bar with friends.
