Heat Control
There's no thermostat in our apartment. We have no control over the heat during the winter, though I can assure you that the building managers err on the side of supplying too much heat to our building rather than too little. It's sad to look at our building from the outside and see every window cracked on the coldest day of the year. Even worse is that they charge everyone a flat rate to run A/C, and they charge it per month all year. So during the summer a lot of the people I live with blast A/C all day when they're gone. The common areas in our building are cold enough for meat storage. You want to feel good about living in a dense urban area and consuming less energy, but to make it feasible you have to wear a bathing suit around in the winter and a jacket around in summer to keep your windows closed.
