End of the World?

According to the Mayans (the same people who never discovered the wheel), the world is going to end in a day or so. You'll find that everyone you talk to on this topic offers a different version of events, some saying it will end days after 12.21 because the Mayans didn't account for leap years and others saying the world won't end at all. You're best off listening to the latter. NASA put together a video that addressed the entire situation as a big misunderstanding, their explanation being that the calendar was designed kind of like the odometer on a car that rolls over every 99,999 miles, so we're just reaching a point where it turns over. I, of course, don't believe the world will end, but it did cross my mind as to just why space explorers (who don't even own a space shuttle anymore) are qualified to make this point. I told my wife and she said that the fact that NASA was even addressing it made it seem more real. Too bad the Mayans didn't let the date land on a weekend. It'd be nice to have an end-of-the-world party.
