I Have An Etiquette Question For You

I ate Chinese food three times this week without even trying. Today I had it at lunch. And while sitting in the window reading the newspaper, out of the corner of my eye I saw someone veer across the sidewalk towards me. It was my coworker Karen. A patient woman always ready for a friendly chat. The window had the restaurant's name written on it right by my face, so she leaned down to see past it and waved at me, just a few inches away but behind glass. We sat and looked at each other for a few moments. I wasn't (and I'm still not) sure what etiquette dictates in this situation. Do I wave her in? Do I stand up and walk outside for a conversation? I didn't do either. We sat and looked at each other for another moment, then she looked at my food, waved at me again ( I waved back) and then she left. When I got back to work we had a conversation about what I was eating, so it all worked out in the end.
