Daily Time Savings Bust

Why is it that I can fly across the country and adjust to the time change in one day, but when daylight savings time ends it takes me a full week to adjust? It would be fine if I woke up an hour earlier each day and went to work an hour earlier and then came home an hour earlier, but that's not a real thing. People don't do that, even though it's logical. Instead I end up staying up later at night, waking up earlier than I want, and then being tired all day. Instead of shifting the clocks one hour, it's more like I subtracted an hour from the end of the day, another hour from my sleep time, and then added an hour to my workday. It makes no sense.
